From our ancient ancestors, to royalty, to clergy, the consensus throughout time is that sapphires are “divine”.
To me they are “divine” because they can be any color of the rainbow, except red, which would make them a ruby!
Sapphire and ruby are the same mineral - corundum and are a 9 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness, just behind diamond. This is why they are breathtaking options for engagement rings as well as rings you may wear every day.
And then there is beautiful science! Sapphires can exhibit some pretty phenomenal qualities.
You might know of star sapphires, which is an optical effect called asterism. My favorite is the color-change sapphire. This marvel is called pleochroism, which means the color will shift when observed at different angles and lighting conditions!
