About This Design
Debra Navarro’s alluring aquamarine necklace is named for an incredibly fearless woman, Esther (pictured among these images)!
Esther is the embodiment of women entrepreneurship, as she leads a group of widows who run and operate a gem mine in southern Kenya called the Precious Women Mine. Their goal is to share the wealth of the mine with their community to help those who are in need.
Like many of Debra’s jewelry “ingredients”, this stone was hand selected by her from artisanal miners in East Africa.
Aquamarine can occur in a range of blue hues, including this striking seafoam hue! It also has a single (or sometimes two) flat facet called a “Tenda” cut. Visually and literally this is where the magic is!
Best of all, 5% of proceeds from the Watu collection benefit Gem Legacy. This 501(c)3 supports education, vocational training, and local economies in East African mining communities. This includes women entrepreneurs who own and operate mines!
