October 11th is Ada Lovelace Day so cheers to the achievements of women in STEM - past, present and future!
We celebrate Ada as the first computer programmer and visionaire who saw the potential for computers to go well beyond crunching numbers. Ada Lovelace Day is meant to raise the profile of women in STEM and encourage us to continue supporting each other. I’m excited for the change women are creating in the world - for the benefit of EVERYONE!

ANALYTICAL MACHINE
In collaboration with Charles Babbage, Ada Lovelace (his “magical math fairy”) invented an Analytical Engine that in her words “might act upon other things besides number... the Engine might compose elaborate and scientific pieces of music of any degree of complexity or extent”. Our computers today share the same structure, with memory, programs, and a central processing unit.
The Analytical Engine was never built in its day, but was intricately designed and annotated with a coding system. More than 135 years later, a set of plans for Difference Engine #2 model was produced by the Science Museum in London and was later cloned for Computer History museum in California.
